Survey Responses
This Independent candidate did not complete our survey but shared some key beliefs on issues addressed in the questionnaire.
I have deep respect for the Christian values that underpin much of Western society. The basic tenet of “love your neighbour” lies at the core of any decent society and the failure to follow that creed is responsible for so many of our local, national and international ills.
While I believe the spirit in all of us outlasts our short lives, I am not a person of faith although I value and respect people of all faith.
A person’s faith, gender and sexuality is entirely a matter for that person and I abhor any form of prejudice that excludes, harms or discriminates.
I believe a woman has the right to determine what happens to her body.
I also believe that a person has the right to determine when they wish to end their life if that decision is reached with due care and under legally defined circumstances.
I understand these two points are contentious but believe they are very much a matter of individual conscience.
A civilised society must look after its poor and vulnerable by ensuring their human rights to a dignified life and appropriate accommodation are addressed. An issue at which we sadly fail on so many fronts.
